She Is Equal To The Job - Shedy Elisha

A particular female commercial motorcycle rider (Okada woman) was seen in Abuja some years back and I got amazed how the public and newsmen were round about her asking her questions how her gender affects the job. The media made it looked like a commercial motorcycle rider must be a male or that such a job is for the male folks.

This is just one instance among many of how people classify jobs according to gender. If you observe carefully from secondary schools to high institutions, you will realize that majority of science students are mostly male, females are less in number compared to the male folks but if you go to art and social sciences, you see lots of females and the male folks are less in number too.

Most times, the world makes it look abnormal and odd when women are involved in certain professional fields or when women acquire certain skills like painting, photography, carpentry, being a military senior officer, mechanic (other forms of engineering), footballer, DJ, music producer, cobbler (shoe maker), being an active and full time politician.

It is very unfortunate that lots of people consider a female politician as a prostitute because they believe politics is meant for men and any woman who is into politics must have had sex with several men to have her way to the top but this is a wrong notion.

Special Quote
"There's something so special about a woman who dominates in a man's world. It takes a certain grace, strength, intelligence, fearlessness, and the nerve to never take no for an answer." —Rihanna in the March 2017 issue of Harper's BAZAAR.

No profession, skill or job was designed with a particular gender attached to it. Who said and where is it written that a woman cannot be or do,  mechanic or any other engineering job, be president without involving in adultery,  do “okada business”, become chief of defense staff in the military or a coach who will be coaching the male team? Why have we classified some few jobs only for the females like hairstylist, teaching job and why have some men made their wives to be full house wives instead of allowing them partake in other jobs in the society? In my last article on Facebook about empowering women, I said its not how much is given to a woman at home but the most important thing is how empowered is she to make impact in the society in her own little way – Click here to read more on it. I wanna say here that a woman can do any job, no woman is less important and no job is meant for the men only.

 Special Quote
"To all the little girls who are watching, never doubt that you are valuable and powerful and deserving of every chance and opportunity in the world to pursue and achieve your own dreams." —Hillary Clinton in her 2016 concession speech

A woman is an embodiment of wisdom and knowledge, a woman is a special being with special skills but if they are not given chance to put those skills to action, we wouldn’t know how skillful they are and how they can impact the world. Our society will grow and develop slowly if women are not carried along. We’ve had women who have made impacts in various fields but the truth is those women are very few and the reason is opportunities are not open to women but men most of the time and this explains how badly women are treated. A woman is equal to any job because a woman can do anything.
How wonderful, great and dynamic the world will be if women are allowed to venture in all kinds of profession and skills. We must learn to be “The Candle” the women need to impact the world. We must encourage them to partake and involve in various fields in the society so that the world can grow and develop well in diversity. Women need   support and encouragement to put in their best and there is nothing odd in a woman being the President of a country, being an army commanding officer or being a painter, shoe maker or taxi driver. They are human and should be allowed and encouraged to practice every profession.
May I say that any man who stops a woman from doing or practicing any profession or stops a woman from unleashing her potential is not just killing the woman only but killing the world and causing underdevelopment.

Let’s be “The Candle” to brighten the life of every woman and the world. We must know and understand the fact that women are not designed to stay in the kitchen only as some men perceive it, they are not sex machines or toys neither are they to remain full house wives. If we must advance as a society, such orientation must be discouraged. Let me make this clear from experience that the touch of a woman in any job is unique and spectacular and this is what the world needs and that is why Margaret Thatcher said "If you want something said, ask a man; if you want something done, ask a woman."
